Pastel Art Classes

Pastels are a good medium for beginning and intermediate artists to gain both knowledge and confidence in their ability. It is a forgiving medium, one that requires a minimum of complicated equipment. Contrary to popular thought, pastel is NOT colored chalk. Pastel is the most permanent of all media when applied and properly framed. It is pure pigment, the same pigment used in making fine paint. It does not darken, crackle, fade or blister. Pastels from the 16th century are as fresh and alive as the day they were painted . In this workshop you will see the different types of pastel available to you and different techniques used for applying them. What the different terms such as value, temperature, balance, form and contrast mean to you as an artist.

The use of color and value to create a strong still life will be discussed. You will learn about some of the different techniques that can be used, as well as the different pastels available to you. Students will be encouraged to develop their own style and given personal attention to help each get the information they need to continue with their love of pastel painting.

Landscapes Painting

This is a studio class designed to help students learn the basics in capturing the wonder of the world around you. How to use light and shadow, color and value, shape and form to create your landscape and give it depth.
